El Yunque
Located on the far east side of Puerto Rico, El Yunque is the only rain forest that is part of the US national parks system. Home to many species of birds, the famous coqui, and a wide variety of flora, there are many ways to explore El Yunque. At the time of writing this, current COVID restrictions limit the number of guests per day and make it very hard to get a ticket through recreation.gov, but it’s worth a try. If not, there are a variety of tour groups that take guests into the forest to enjoy hiking, swimming, and other outdoor recreation activities.
